Did you make a good bet? Win rate won't tell you.

cloudbook tracks Closing Line Value — the metric that measures betting skill independent of luck. It's what sharp bettors have always known. Now everyone can see it.

The core insight

The closing line is the most efficient price the market ever reaches on a game. By the time the game starts, every injury report, sharp bet, and line move has been absorbed.

When the line moves in your direction after you bet, you beat the close. You found value before the market did.

Positive Line Value over time is the strongest indicator of genuine betting skill — stronger than win rate, stronger than ROI. You can run lucky for weeks. You can't consistently beat the closing line by accident.

How it's calculated

You take the Pistons +9.5 on Wednesday. By Sunday, the line has moved to Pistons +7.5. The market tightened 2 points — you locked in a number that's no longer available.

That's +2.0 CLV. You beat the close.

cloudbook snapshots odds every hour and automatically calculates your Line Value for every eligible settled bet.

What the numbers mean

Avg Line Value
What it means
Above +0.5 pts
You're consistently finding value before the market does
-0.5 to +0.5 pts
Roughly market rate — results are mostly variance
Below -0.5 pts
You're typically buying in after the sharp money has moved

Why it matters more than win rate

You can go 4-6 in a week and have positive Line Value on 8 of 10 bets. That means you made good decisions and got unlucky on results.

You can also go 7-3 and have negative Line Value on most bets — meaning you got lucky, not skilled.

Over a large enough sample, Line Value predicts future performance better than win rate does. It separates skill from luck.
